Seven years is a long time to do anything. But when you are doing something you love it can be a very short time. Stephen Conway has been doing his blog/podcast/videocast/film project called The Spiel for seven years.
But this year is different. Stephen and his co-host Dave Colsen have decided to turn to Kickstarter to help them make The Spiel into something even bigger.
The Spiel is a high quality production show that provides extensive coverage of the board game industry. Last year, almost on a dare, Stephen and Dave decided to take their show on the road and travel to Essen, Germany for the first time to document Spiel, the largest game tradeshow on the planet. They turned to Kickstarter to raise more than $6,000 to make the journey.
This unusual event helped them realize that raising money for their show may be easier if they raised the majority of the funds in one effort rather than on a monthly basis. The success of their previous Kickstarter campaign has helped them find a way to raise a large percentage of the funds needed to produce their show.
Stephen joins me on Funding the Dream to discuss this process and how Kickstarter has impacted their production and show. It is a great listen because Stephen is a great guy who loves what he does, even after seven years of doing it.
